THE GREAT LAKES TARN CHALLENGE |
Hole rake tarn, sadly nothing left of it this time of year! :-( Wetherlam tarn, too low to swim properly but a fantastic day to be out in the hills.

Sadly Watendlath had been privatised and is now a fishing only tarn :-( One of the nicest ones I've swum, Blea Tarn. Cold but very picturesque! Dock Tarn, a bit boggy!
(Hayeswater above) A load of tarns done with Dave, Lauren and Katherine, thanks for the support guys! Brock Crag Tarn Satura Crag Tarns
Rydal Water done first, starting midway up the river then travelling East. They're getting colder! Grasmere.
3 more done on a lovely Friday evening. Burney, Blind and Pewet. Burney Tarn Blind Tarn - Furness Pewet Tarn
We got up early to get a nice calm start. A big thanks to Stuart and Jess for their support. 5.6 miles swum in 3.5 hours - I feel a lot better prepared now for Ullswater and Windermere. Good kayaking, Stuart, though we need to get you a longer kayak!
A nice walk up Hay Stacks to get another few done after wild camping the night before. Blackbeck tarn Innominate Tarn Hay Stacks Tarn
We spent the day kayaking Loweswater and Buttermere in the northeast Lakes, really sunny day but unfortunately Loweswater suffers from blue green algae, I don't advise swimming in to anyone else! Loweswater at the beginning. Loweswater at the end! Selfie of the two of us just before doing Buttermere.
A great day out doing Grizedale Tarn, Grizedale Small Tarn, Juniper Tarn, Gooseyfoot Tarn and High Man Tarn with Dave, Lauren, James, Grace and Katherine GRIZEDALE TARN WITH DAVE GRIZEDALE SMALL TARN GooseyFoot Tarn
Got a bit excited when I heard there was a Tim's Tarn but it turned out to be extremely boggy and smelly, bit disappointing! Low Birker was a bit better however but very cold!
First big Lake done needing kayak support. Wastwater on a very windy day, helped to push me along a bit though which was helpful!
A good day's hiking to the top of Glenridding Dodd and Sheffield Pike with Katherine and Malcolm, then round to Lanty's Tarn. A bit boggy and low but swum nonetheless.
A great nights run and swim with Rob and Stuart, sadly very cold and windy so we'll be back to do Low Water...
A really nice evening walk with Katherine - found two lovely tarns, would've loved to have swum in them because it was so hot, but unfortunately they're now both private :-( Bigland Tarn, now private - no swimming. Canny Hill Tarn, unfortunately also not for swimmers

I've decided to dedicate a challenge I set myself back in 2014 to my Grandfather, Brian, who sadly passed away, soon after being diagnosed with MND earlier this year. He lived in and loved the Lake District and was an adventurous soul who achieved so much in his life. I'm hoping to better support those with MND and their families through the Motor Neurone Disease Association. If you would like to sponsor me please follow the link below:
